Fall.

I’m a Nut song is a great song to use when teaching a Fall-theme unit to preschoolers and kindergarten students.

I’m a Nut song describes an acorn.

An acorn is a nut that falls and accumulates on the ground in fall.

An acorn is also a favorite food of squirrels.

Squirrels love to munch on acorns.

I’m a Nut song is also a really fun children’s finger play that young learners will enjoy.

Acorn song lyric and actions

I’m an acorn small and round
(place index finger and thumb together to indicate “small”)

Lying on the cold, cold ground.
(cross arms against body and shiver)

Everyone walks over me.
(lift foot slowly and pretend to walk over something)

That is why I’m cracked you see.
(open arms slowly and clap sharply on the word “cracked.)

I’m a nut.
(cluck cluck with tongue while tapping head)

I’m a nut.
(cluck cluck with tongue while tapping head)

I’m a nut, I’m a nut, I’m a nut.
(cluck cluck with tongue while tapping head)

Fall Activity.

After listening to the song and participating in the song activity, introduce another really fun activity to the class.

Acorn art!

Preschoolers and kindergarten children will have a blast decorating an acorn with construction paper.

So, what are you waiting for?

Let’s craft an acorn for fall!

Craft items you will need:

  • White card stock
  • Black and orange construction paper
  • Scissors (optional)
  • Glue
  • Acorn template

Craft instructions:

Print the Acorn template on white card stock.

Next, have the students cut or tear out small square pieces from brown and orange construction paper.

Then, have the students spread glue all over the Acorn.

After that, have the children place the small brown square pieces at the top of the Acorn and the small orange square pieces all over the rest of the Acorn.

And, voila, the children have now made Paper Acorn art for fall!

We hope you’ll find a lot of ways to use this Acorn song as a teaching tool at home or in the classroom with kids of all ages.
